SOME of the children being housed at the St Judes’ Home for Girls rioted on Monday, damaging the dormitory and library and forcing staff to locked themselves into a room while the police were called.

Police say that in accordance with the Judges’ Rules for Children, they are conducting investigations into the incident in Belmont.

According to investigators, officials at the home reported to police that several girls began behaving in a very violent and aggressive manner toward staff at around 2p.m, doing significant damage to the dormitory and library area.

The staff at the home said they were forced to lock themselves in the reception area and the police had to be contacted. Officers of the Belmont Police Station and the Child Protection Unit responded.
